Submit to God

Sunday, August 2nd-Morning Service

Speaker: Clint Woolsey

"Submit to God"

A rather old Sunday School teacher was teaching his Sunday school class made up of young children.

He asked the kids, “Why would people look at me and think I’m a Christian?”

One small child looked up and answered, “Because they don’t know you?”

Are you a Christian this morning?

Maybe a better questions is:

Were you a Christian yesterday morning?

Or

Will you be a Christian tomorrow morning?

If you are a Christian have you given God FULL control of your life?

Are you obedient to the things God asks you to do?

Do you truly seek God’s guidance in your life or are you just doing all the “things a good Christian should do?”

God needs to be in control of your life EVERYDAY.

We need to submit all that we are to Him.

We need to leave ALL SIN ALONE and DRAW CLOSE TO GOD!

What are you holding back from God today?

James 4:7-10 (New King James Version)

Humility Cures Worldliness

7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

7 Therefore submit to God.

Have you submitted to God?

I mean have you given Him Everything?

Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Temptation and sin are always going to be present in this current world, but if we will RESIST sin and the devil he will FLEE!

8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

The closer you get to God the closer God will get to you.

The more you read His word, the more you worship Him, the more you come to church…the more God will come to you,

the more you will feel the Holy Spirit in your day-to-day life.

Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Live a HOLY LIFE!  Do NOT doubt God!

Have faith in God…TRUST HIM!

9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

When you offend GOD it should break your heart.

So many times we get use to our sins.

At first they bother us…we feel guilty about them…then before you know it, we don’t think twice about it.

We are not moved in the slightest by our offense.

In Romans 1:28 it you can read about God turning sinners over to a debased or reprobate mind.

Romans 1:28 (New King James Version)

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,

God gave them over to a debased mind,

                    to do those things which are not fitting;

That is a scary thought to me!

That there becomes a point where you have sinned so much and gotten so caught up in it that God just turns you over to it!

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

If we will humble ourselves before God…if we will live our lives with humility, not thinking of ourselves higher than we ought…

God will raise us up. He will honor us!

What is better to be lifted up by man or be lifted up by God!

____

Is there anything in your life more important than God?

Does God know that?

Can He see it in the way you live your life?

Can He see it in how you prioritize your life?

Is there anything on earth worth losing for the sake of Christ?

Philippians 3:7-11 (New King James Version)

7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.

8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

What are you willing to lose for God?

What are you willing to ‘give-up’ to serve Him like you should?

Is the pleasure from that sin worth your eternity?

Is God first in your life?  Or does He take a back seat to everything else you have to do?

What is your priority?

Philippians 17-21 (New King James Version)

17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.

18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

There are a lot of people who walk around “looking” like Christians, but their hearts are far from it?

They are trying to gain something for themselves.

Power, money, honor…

They are caught up in the sins of this world.

Where is your God this morning?

Is He in your heart or in your belly?

God desires to be close to you and be in control of your life.

He deserves it!

Have you submitted to Him?

Have you given Him everything or are you still holding on to something?

God loves you…He loves you so much that He sent His son to die for YOUR sins.

Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?

Let’s pray…
